The media wasn't censored at all so everything that came straight from the war was seen everywhere in America. Journalist were in the Vietnam war and they daily reported facts about battles, casualties and the morale of the soldiers.

Around 1950's only 9% of homes owned a television but by 1960's it increased to 93%. Producers and reporters didn't want television to be a public service, they wanted to gain profit from it. They tried to achieve that by making news more entertaining. They showed conflict and people's morality. The news didn't find enough material that was dramatic enough until the number of American troops raised to 175, 000 in July 1965. There were interviews with American soldiers, and helicopter scenes to make it as dramatic as possible.
