Media during the Vietnam War


Introduction

Vietnam war was the first war that entered all houses in America. People could watch every second from the war during school break, dinners and work. The media wasn't censored at all so everything that came straight from the war was seen everywhere in America. Journalist were in the Vietnam war and they daily reported facts about battles, casualties and the morale of the soldiers.

Most important source showing news

In 1960's, television was considered to be the most important source of news for the American public. It was the most powerful source that could change public opinion at anytime. Around 1950's only 9% of homes owned a television but by 1960's it increased to 93%. Producers and reporters didn't want television to be a public service, they wanted to gain profit from it. They tried to achieve that by making news more entertaining. They showed conflict and people's morality. The news didn't find enough material that was dramatic enough until the number of American troops raised to 175, 000 in July 1965. There were interviews with American soldiers, and helicopter scenes to make it as dramatic as possible.

During the Vietnam War, was The New York Times showed as a liberal newspaper? One of famous media critics Edward Herman beliefs and argues with other critics that The New York Times was a promoter and that it supported the aggressive aspects of the war.
Danny Schechter was a MediaChannel News Dissector who covered Vietnam from his studio in Boston. He was interviewing soldiers from the North and South Vietnam in 1974 just before the war ended in 1975.

More than 70 journalist were killed during the war in 1965-1975. Many of the journalist were killed in military air crashes or in battle fields where they were never found.

O I know most of you are waiting for this!!!! Lost Season 2, episode 4


Many people in the hatch divided their time into work shifts. Hugo got to take care of the food supplies and to make an inventory of the food. Hugo can't tell anyone about it that others wouldn't eat the food that fast. He doesn't want to this work alone so he calls Rose to help him. On the other half of the island Sawyer, Jin and Michael are getting to know where the other group comes from. They found out those people actually come from the back side of the plane. In total 23 people survived (23 = one of the numbers you have to type in the computer) but only five of them is left. One of them is Rose's husband Bernard. They live in bunker which has the same dharma symbol on except there is not a swan but another symbol in the middle. Claire finds a bottle that came from the sea and it is the bottle which Michael and Sawyer took on the raft. They think that all of them from the raft died. Jack and Sayid are still discovering the hatch and they find a strong magnetic radiation that is coming out of one of the walls. Then Hurley gets mad and wants to blow up all the supplies because he thinks people will be mad at him for not giving them what they wanted. Rose stops Hurley and Hurley decides to give all the supplies to the people on the island.
